Race Night - Getting Started

1. Arrange a Team  If you have colleagues and friends with an interest in your cause then involve them from the start. If you know someone who is a natural extrovert 'rope them in' as your auctioneer for the last race.

2. Arrange a Date  Decide on a date for your event and make sure that your venue and key assistants are available on that date too.

3. Arrange a Venue  Suitable venues can be pubs, bars, hotels, club premises, halls or college and university lecture theatres. Make sure that there is adequate space for your intended audience and enough room for them to move about to place bets. If the venue has its own bar then the owners should be delighted to offer their venue at no charge in return for the revenue your event will generate.   If you are charging an admission fee then you may wish to organise food. Something simple like hot stovies can be ideal.

4. Equipment Arrange screening equipment for your race night.  Our technical help download  on our brochures and resources page will guide you. Many venues will have suitable equipment available which will save you providing your own.

5. Sponsorship for Fundraising Race Nights
For the Races
Identify local companies or organisations which might sponsor a race. For a small fundraiser, you may wish to bring in the local butcher, the plumber, the garage, the electrician etc. For higher profile events you wish to try your luck with local stores, factories and other organisations. Just bear in mind that larger organisations need more time to decide whereas small businesses can often make an immediate decision.

For the Runners  If you have colleagues helping you, then you should hand them a sponsorship collection form (they are in our brochures and resources section) and ask them to find sponsors for each of the eight runners in a race. Try to find sponsors who can attend on the night. In this way you are lining up your audience and publicising your fundraising event all at the same time. Before placing your order in our online shop you should prepare the personalised information so you can enter it efficiently during the ordering process.
